The ICTP is for anyone preparing to become the certified administrator of a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly in California: caregivers stepping into leadership, facility staff, owners, and career changers.

Thirteen modules. The whole Core of Knowledge.

Each module ends with its own evaluation, with an 80% standard to pass. Modules 3 and 4 are taught entirely through self-paced lessons.

Live hours are grouped into six 10-hour teaching days. Cohorts run them back-to-back or across three weekends. Self-paced lessons fit in between.

The dates run from the day printed on your ICTP certificate, and then from the day you pass. Full certification guide

Window 1 · The exam

Pass the state exam: at least 70%, up to 3 attempts, $100 exam fee paid to the state.

Window 2 · Your application

File LIC 9214 with your ICTP certificate, the fee, and your Live Scan form. This window starts the day you pass.

    Register for the state exam

    You

    Email ExamRegistration@dss.ca.gov with a copy of your ICTP certificate, the date on it, and your exam type. You register yourself, using your own email address. Schools can't register students.
  2. 02

    Pass within 60 days

    YouWith CDSS

    You need a score of at least 70%, within 60 days of completing the ICTP. The exam fee is $100 and you have up to three attempts.
  3. 03

    File form LIC 9214 within 30 days

    You

    Submit your Application for Administrator Certification with a copy of your ICTP certificate, the fee, and your Live Scan form.
  4. 04

    Receive your Administrator Certificate

    With CDSS

    The CDSS Administrator Certification Bureau issues your certificate once your application and clearance are on record.
If you don't pass within 60 days, you'll need to complete a new ICTP.
