Getting started

Which program do I need?
If you're becoming an RCFE administrator for the first time, you need the 80-hour ICTP. If you already hold an Administrator Certificate and are renewing, you need the 40-hour CETP.
When does enrollment open?
Our CDSS vendor application is in progress, and we won't offer any class for credit until it's approved. Join the interest list and we'll email you first class dates and tuition as soon as they're confirmed.
Does finishing the course make me a certified administrator?
Not by itself. The ICTP certificate qualifies you to register for the state exam. After passing, you apply to CDSS with form LIC 9214, and CDSS issues your Administrator Certificate.

Classes and attendance

Is the program fully online?
Yes. Live hours are taught in interactive online classes, and self-paced hours are completed in your student portal. You'll need a computer with a camera, microphone and a reliable internet connection.
How is live attendance counted?
Live classes are interactive, and attendance is verified for every session. Only instructional time counts. Breaks and time outside of instruction don't. If something goes wrong with your connection, our staff review your attendance record.
How do self-paced hours work?
You complete lessons and quizzes on your own time. Hours are earned by completing the work and meeting the passing standard, not by leaving a page open or clicking through.
What if I miss part of a live class?
Missed hours can be made up through our makeup policy. Every makeup session and attendance correction is logged, so your record stays accurate.
Is there a test at the end of each module?
Yes. Each module has an evaluation with an 80% standard to pass, and the ICTP ends with a closing assessment.

The state exam

Will you register me for the exam?
We can't. CDSS requires every applicant to register individually, using their own email address. You'll email ExamRegistration@dss.ca.gov with a copy of your ICTP certificate, its date, and your exam type.
How long do I have to pass the exam?
60 days from completing the ICTP. You need at least 70% to pass, the fee is $100, and you have up to three attempts. If you don't pass within 60 days, you'll need to retake the ICTP.

Renewal and certificates

How many hours do I need to renew?
40 hours in each two-year cycle. At least 20 must be live, at least 4 must cover laws and regulations, and at least 8 must cover Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Our CETP covers all of it.
Why do I get a separate certificate for each CETP course?
CDSS asks you to upload a certificate for each course with your renewal application, and transcripts aren't accepted instead. If you finish all nine courses, you'll also receive an optional combined 40-hour certificate.
What's on my certificate?
Your name; the approved course name, number and hours; the class dates, times and locations; our vendor name and number; and an authorized signature. These are the details Title 22 requires.
